For most people, their wedding day is filled with established traditions. It starts with a diamond ring and a proposal and then anywhere from days to years later, ends with a wedding and a reception. While every marriage is unique and people often pick and choose the traditions that they want to include on their special day, some things are involved in most weddings.
A few things come to mind, like saying “I do” in front of your guests and sharing a special dance. Often, there are certain roles and moments reserved for particular family members, like the father-daughter dance. But, if you’re a bride and your father can’t attend for one reason or another, that empty space in the day can put a damper on an otherwise happy celebration.
The woman in this video had carefully planned her wedding. Like most brides, she had attended to all the details, including the venue, music, flowers, food, dress, and all the other tiny details that go into planning a wedding. A wedding usually follows a particular schedule of small moments and events. What wedding doesn’t come loaded with all sorts of age-old traditions?
Traditions are great and all but as much as we live and abide by them, they oftentimes get bent. The things that come up in life can prevent us from sticking to “the way it’s always been done” or they’re in need of being updated, and a new tradition comes up instead. For the lovely bride in this video, it was a few years prior when her father passed away. As a result, she opted to skip past the tried and true father-daughter dance.
But, her adorable six-year-old son had other plans. He knew how important and how much this dance means to brides, and of course, to his mom. So in place of her father, he decided to step into some big shoes and be the man his mom dances with. In the weeks before the big day, they both practiced their dance steps. When the emotional moment finally arrived, he took his mother’s hand and led her to the floor. He danced with her as a little man who loves and cares for this very special woman in his life. It’s incredibly sweet, and by the look on her face, you can see that the bride is delighted.
