You know you’re doing something right when you’re playing an instrument in a public place and a crowd gathers – even while they’re rushing to their next destination! It’s easy to be in a hurry, oblivious to the world around you. Time’s a-tickin’ when you’ve got your head down on the way to work or making your way into the city.
But when you take a moment to “smell the roses,” you get a little bounce in your step. I always try to pause, if only for a moment, when I hear beautiful music in a train station. After all, living in the now is all we’ve got, and this little girl is doing just that – she’s playing an impromptu piece on the piano that has everyone taking a moment out of their busy schedule to breathe and just enjoy.
The little girl’s name is Diane et Camille Lambient. She’s 8-years-old, and she’s playing Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from 1997’s “Titanic.” It was such a huge hit and continues to be the second-best selling single by a female artist in history, also making it Celine’s signature song.
Diane is at the St. Pancras Underground, in London – 19 years later, this song is captivating, and when played with heart and soul, it’s just magical! The little girl’s fingers gingerly move across the keys, and she’s got her foot pedal timed to blend transitions smoothly. Her group of admiring onlookers can’t keep their eyes off of her! With their positive reinforcement, it’s no wonder this little girl keeps playing with all her might. She’s a total showstopper!
